1. Love
The people in white coats had told him he was crazy. They said he couldn't feel things like love, empathy, sympathy or even attachment to another person. Said he was too crazy. They were wrong.
2. Hate
The only thing Hector hated more than being locked up was tanks.
3. Rain
Unlike most people, rain actually cheered Cedric up. He liked to sit out in it and listen to it hit the ground around him; a very soothing noise.
4. Fear
Hector never liked the fact that he couldn't be the strong, fearless protector that Cedric deserved.
5. Empty
Contrary to popular belief, Hector's mind was far from empty. In reality, it was often filled with absurd and ludicrous thoughts or ideas, most of which went vastly ignored in favor of the ones involving Cedric and how to make him smile.
6. Fall
Hector felt a little bit like a superhero when he tripped and fell off a three story building, hitting the ground face first then getting up unharmed.
7. Open
Cedric often opened up and talked about his life before the infection. Hector liked to listen to the stories, but rarely ever opened up about his own life since most of it would probably just upset the younger boy anyway.
8. Hope
Sometimes Cedric hoped he would wake up and find that this was all just a bad dream. He could get out of bed and have breakfast with his parents, hang out with his friends, finish his last year of high school and go on to college and be something. But he swore to himself that if, by some miracle, it did turn out to be a bad dream, the first thing he would do after breakfast was visit the Pine View Insane Asylum to find out if Hector was real or the best part of the worst dream he'd ever had.
9. Death
They often wondered about where they would go when they died. Heaven? No. Hell? More likely. Limbo? Plausible. Emptiness? A possibility. They didn't know where they would go, but they prayed they would be there together.
10. Close
At times when Cedric would cry the hardest, Hector would hold him as close as possible and whisper comforting words in the smooth, calming voice he'd previously used to lure victims into his home.
11. Climb
Hector found that climbing things was significantly easier now that his arms were free of the straitjacket's confinement.
12. Fire
Seemed like everywhere they traveled, something was consumed by a small fire. Cedric often mused that, if not put out, those small random fires would probably grow and with time spread across the land, burning everything.
13. Pain
Their first time together had been painful. Cedric hadn't shared the experience with anyone before Hector and would often claw his new lover on accident. Hector had a difficult time controlling his natural urge to hurt the thing writhing beneath him and bit the small body more than once.
14. Pleasure
It wasn't until their fifth time together that Cedric figured out how to move his hands without cutting his dominant and Hector gained control over his urge to maim the smaller boy. They both found that it was much easier to concentrate on the pleasure without having to worry about the pain.
15. Smile
Sometimes Hector did things that put a smile on Cedric's face. Those times made Hector proud of himself.
16. Cry
Cedric cried often. This was often from a mix of the emotional pain of having lost everyone precious to him and the knowledge that the world was basically ending.
17. Toy
Hector mused that if he had escaped the asylum before the outbreak, or perhaps was never caught to begin with, and met Cedric, the boy would have ended up becoming another one of his toys to use and abuse until nothing was left. In that sick way he was thankful for what had happened.
18. Happy
"Why do you cry? Do I make you cry? I'm sorry I make you cry..." Hector said all in one breath, not waiting for an answer to either question. Cedric sniffled and gave a small smile, "I cry because I miss my family. You don't make me cry. You make me happy."
"Really? That makes me happy." Hector said with an odd grin that would have been frightening to anyone but Cedric, who giggled and gave his boyfriend a sweet peck on the cheek.
19. Scar
Hector often left his shirt on even when they got intimate. This was to prevent Cedric from seeing the scars left from his victims' failed attempts at escaping.
20. Angel
Cedric was an angel and Hector wanted to believe that when the boy passed away he would go to a better place than himself.
21. Song
Hector's favorite song was the one Cedric would sometimes sing to him at night when his paranoia would spiral and he could relax no other way.
22. Chain
Now that he was outside of the asylum, the chain broken, Hector was free to do as he pleased. He could maim, torture and kill whomever he wanted. He soon realized, however, that the little Witch he stumbled across was infinitely more pleasing to him than any amount of gore would ever be.
23. Dance
"I love this song..." Cedric whispered as his body began to sway to and fro to the tune coming from the old radio Hector had found. The madman watched in amusement as his love moved to the slow rhythm. The Witch held out a hand, "Dance with me?" He asked the Screamer in his sweetest voice. Hector couldn't say no.
24. Night
Hector didn't care for the night. There was no telling what sorts a beasts lurked in the darkness, watching, waiting, planning. His mind often invented it's own sights and sounds to keep him alert and unable to sleep.
25. Day
The days were often dimmed by smoke and haze and didn't provide much light. Still, Hector was thankful for its arrival.
26. Fool
Only a fool took on a tank. Hector was no fool. But, when one came charging at them, seemingly hell bent on hurting one or both, the fear of the possibility of Cedric being hurt or killed by the massive monstrosity turned the Screamer into the biggest fool he'd ever been.
27. Whisper
Cedric's voice often either came out as a wail or a whisper. When he whispered, Hector's heightened hearing always picked up every word.
28. Shout
Hector rarely realized when he was shouting. His twisted mind often played tricks on him, leaving him unaware of some of his actions.
29. Paralyzed
The tank seemed stunned after Hector let out an ear shattering scream at him. He stood there a moment, paralyzed and confused, until the horde suddenly gathered around him. Hector and Cedric used the chaos to make a quick escape.
30. Break
As Cedric let out another painful sob, Hector held him tightly and silently vowed to never break, if only for the Witch's sake.
31. Stuck
With the world turned to chaos, Cedric and Hector were no longer stuck in their usual menial lives. They were free to roam and go where ever they wanted, see what they wanted to see, even if most everything was burning.
32. Habit
Hector had a habit of talking to himself. He never noticed he was doing it until Cedric would point it out, leaving the Screamer a little embarrassed each time.
33. Listen
No sound went undetected by Hector's ears. If there was one thing he was good at, it was listening.
34. Numb
With most of the sun's ray blocked from the city, the average temperature dropped within a week. The night Cedric's legs went numb from the cold they both realized that they could no longer stay there and left as quickly as possible, Hector having to carry the blanket-wrapped Witch.
35. Shadow
Hector would never EVER admit to the fact that he'd been scared by his own shadow on more than one occasion.
36. Wake
Hector didn't sleep often. He preferred to sit and keep watch around them. I was worth it, however, to see Cedric wake up each morning.
37. Blood
Cedric had never liked the sight of blood. Now, unfortunately, blood was a common sight, forcing the Witch to come to terms with his slight fear.
38. Valentine
"It's Valentine's Day, ya know." Hector said matter-of-factly. Cedric looked at him, slightly surprised, "Really?"
Hector nodded, looking solemn, "I was gonna get you something, but... ya know." He said with a shrug. Cedric smiled, "That's okay. I'm just glad you said something."
39. Pieces
Cedric cried out as a sick man bit into his arm. He kicked him and yanked his arm free, tearing his shirt and the skin around the bite to pieces. Not waiting for him to recover, Cedric turned and ran. What was happening with the world?
40. Lullaby
Hector stayed completely silent as he watched Cedric gently rock the baby they'd found. He sang it a soft lullaby as they waited for Kaden and Douglas to find the mother, who, sadly, had more than likely been turned.
41. Crush
Cedric watched as Hector wandered around the small yard, picking up sticks and placing them in a pile to make a fire. He wondered to himself why he had a crush on a man who was obviously crazy and at least ten years older than himself. Then, Hector came running up to him, stopping just in front of him and presenting a half-dead flower with a huge grin on his face. Cedric smiled, carefully taking the flower and remembering why he'd taken a liking to the Screamer in the first place.
42. Curse
They'd said his existence was a curse to humanity. Maybe they were right; the world was coming to an end after all. Had it been Hector's fault somehow? Possibly, but he wasn't going to tell Cedric that.
43. Moon
The moon's bright glow easily illuminated the country side, making it easy for Hector to watch for wandering threats while Cedric slept soundly.
44. Sun
The sun was bright and harsh as it beat down on them. "This was a terrible idea..." Cedric whimpered, "It's hot and dusty and there's no shade for miles..."
Hector could barely nod as they continued down the dusty country road, nothing but farmland all around them.
45. Belong
"You're right where you belong." The man in the white coat said, giving Hector a disgusted look and slamming the padded door. Hector cackled maniacally, leaning back against a padded wall and tugging lightly at his straitjacket.
46. Friend
Hector hadn't had a friend since he was ten, when his best friend, a blonde boy named Timothy, was killed in a car wreck, which would later trigger his need to murder young blonde boys. Now, he found himself sitting around a small fire with three other people that he could call friends.
47. Frozen
As Winter rolled around and the temperature dropped far below freezing, the group found themselves sliding along the ice of a frozen pond, Cedric and Douglas making etchings in the ice with claws while Hector and Kaden tried to make each other slip.
48. Heat
Hector didn't care much for heat, the only exception being the heat he and Cedric created in the bedroom.
49. Lies
Every time Cedric asked about his past, a variety of smooth lies came flowing off Hector's tongue about how he'd lived, what he'd done for a living and how he'd gotten into the asylum in the first place.
50. Truth
"Please, just tell me the truth." Cedric said one day, eyes pleading, "I know you've been lying about a lot, and I won't ask you to fess up about all of it, but just tell me... How many people did you hurt?"
Hector couldn't bring himself to lie to that face and he didn't miss the look of shock and fear when he said, "Fourteen."
